High Holy Day Food Drive
"This is the fast that I desire . . . It is to share your bread with the hungry . . . Then shall your light shine in darkness . . . " (Isaiah 58: 6a, 7a, 8a)
During Elul through Yom Kippur, we are collecting nonperishable food items to benefit our community partner, SOME (So Others Might Eat), an interfaith organization helping DC residents without homes, and the Capital Kosher Pantry, the only Kosher food pantry serving people in the Washington area Jewish community who experience food insecurity. Collection bins will be on the loading dock Tuesday – Friday from 9 – 5pm and during in-person events at Adas. The parking lot will not be accessible by vehicle so please park on the street and walk your items to the loading dock. If you have a large or heavy donation and need help, contact Jamie Butler, who will coordinate with staff.
Capital Kosher Pantry asks that all items have OU certification hechshers
SOME’s food list includes canned tuna, chicken, salmon; peanut butter and other nut butters; oatmeal and low-sugar cereal; pasta sauce and tomato sauce; whole wheat pastas and couscous; beans and lentils; unsweetened canned fruit and vegetables; coffee/tea.
L'Shana Tova Member Phone Calls
Sign up to make phone calls here!
Throughout the High Holy Days, our lobby halls echo with the sounds of “L’shana Tovah”. Although we won’t be able to send these wishes in person, we can send them by phone. We are looking for volunteers to help us call our entire community of Adas members (over 1700 households) to wish them a sweet New Year and to go over the who, what, where’s of our virtual High Holy Day experience.
