The Land of Israel: Land of Longing, Land of Promise

Commemorate Israel's 70th birthday with a celebration of Jewish learning. For centuries, Jews have been talking, writing, singing, and creating art about the Land of Israel — its boundaries, climate, laws, and lore. How have Jews attempted to reconcile the promise of the land with the reality of Jewish exile and life in the Diaspora? What happens to the Jewish longing for an ideal in the face of nationhood and the challenges of sovereignty?

The first two classes will be taught at Adas Israel by Rabbis Alexander and Yolkut, and will conclude with the final class, with representatives from all around the D.C. jewish community,  at Congregation B'nai Tzedek in Potomac, Maryland facilitated by JTS on Sunday, April 29.
