Havdalah & Sing for Justice

Saturday, April 9, 2022 8 Nisan 5782

7:00 PM - 9:00 PMKay Hall

This Saturday evening, April 9th, from 7:00-9:00 pm, join Adas Israel Musician-in-Residence Micah Hendler, Justice Choir DC, Interfaith Power and Light, and the Dayenu climate movement, for an evening of collective singing and social action focused on the environment.

We will begin with a short musical havdalah as we bid farewell to Shabbat, and transition into the work of building a more just and sustainable world through song. We will learn songs from many traditions about our planet and our relationship to it—songs that can feed our souls and galvanize us to action, alongside community members and partners across the city who are leading in the fight against climate change.

This event will also prepare us for a collective action on April 20th, in which we will gather downtown from 11:00am-12:30pm to call upon seven big banks to move their investments from fossil fuels to clean energy.  Our songs will be a critical part of the experience as we walk from bank to bank in a soulful "street seder"—and we will learn these songs on April 9th, so we can be ready!

We invite community members of all backgrounds, faiths, and levels of singing experience to join us and share their voices fully. The April 9th event will meet at Adas Israel (2850 Quebec Street NW) in person, indoors, masked, and socially distanced (with proof of vaccination).  Please register at https://www.adasisrael.org/event/havdalah-april9.
