A Book Talk with Thupten Jinpa, Ph.D.

The Briyut Wellness Center of Adas Israel and the International Campaign for Tibet are honored to host Thupten Jinpa, Ph.D., the highly acclaimed thought leader and English translator of the Dalai Lama, for a talk on his book, A Fearless Heart. In this book, Thupten Jinpa shows us how compassion works as a powerful inner resource that can yield surprising and compelling benefits—not just for others, but for ourselves. 

Thupten Jinpa has been a principal English translator to His Holiness the Dalai Lama since 1985 and has traveled extensively in this capacity. He has translated and edited more than a dozen books by the Dalai Lama including the New York Times bestseller, Ethics for the New Millennium, Transforming the Mind, Universe in a Single Atom: The Convergence of Science and Spirituality, and Beyond Religion: Ethics for the Whole World. In addition to works in Tibetan as well as translations of numerous classical Tibetan texts, Jinpa's own work includes, Self, Reality and Reason in Tibetan Philosophy, Dispelling the Darkness of Mind: A Jesuit's Quest for the Soul of Tibet (co-authored), and A Fearless Heart: How the Courage to be Compassionate Can Transform Our Lives. Jinpa is the principal author of CCT (Compassion Cultivation Training), an 8-week training program developed at Stanford University,  the founder and president of the Compassion Institute, the chair of the Mind and Life Institute, and serves as an Adjunct Professor at the School of Religious Studies at McGill University. He is also currently the President of the Institute of Tibetan Classics in Montreal, Canada where he lives with his wife and two young daughters.
