A new MakomDC series in partnership with the Shalom Hartman Institute
The past two years have raised urgent, complex, and often painful questions about Zionism. How can we build community when so much feels uncertain?
This eight-session course — based on the Hartman Institute’s newest offering — helps us to meet that challenge head-on, offering Torah for this moment and practical tools to engage with courage, compassion, and clarity. Each week, participants will listen in advance to a Hartman podcast conversation between Dr. Tal Becker and a faculty colleague. Our in-person sessions, led by your Adas rabbis, will dive deeper through guided text study and open, thoughtful discussion. Together, we’ll explore:
- The Crisis of Liberal Zionism
- Pariah Nation: Countering the Criminalization of Israel
- Is Zionsim a Colonial Project
- Love and Tough Love: Criticism and Solidarity
- Warrior Nation: The Militarization of Israeli Society
- The Rise and Challenge of Illiberal Zionsim
- The Legacy of Gaza in Israel
- The Legacy of Gaza in the Diaspora
Requirements:
- Commitment to attend at least 6 of the 8 sessions.
- Completion of short podcast listening before each class.
Join us as we seek deeper understanding, shared language, and renewed purpose for the work of liberal Zionism today.
