Adas Israel is involved in a number of special efforts to assist
the many elderly Jewish residents of our area. These include providing a hot
lunch and fellowship program for seniors each weekday, in partnership with
the Jewish Council on the Aging, the
DCJCC, and Iona House. The
daily lunch program is made possible by a generous grant from the Ethel
Dubit Fund and the Suevia and Rudolph Behrend Endowment. Seniors from
the DC metro area are invited to enjoy a hot Kosher lunch at this
popular program site. The cost of this meal is $4.25. We welcome
suggested donations of $2.50. Donations will be used to serve more
people. Our daily programs are for D.C. residents aged 60 and over. No
one will be denied a meal if s/he is unable to make a donation. Optional
trips, special events, exercise and art classes cost extra. In addition
to delicious meals, there are daily classes in art, movement, and
writing. Featured speakers are invited to discuss nutrition, health,
financial and literary topics. On Fridays, the Senior Fellowship offers
a Shabbat celebration that includes live musical entertainment. If
you are a senior who would like to expand your circle of friends, please
make plans to attend. If you are someone who has a few hours to
volunteer, the program could use your help.
