Shabbat Worship
Friday Evening
We’re very excited about the new experiences planned for Friday nights at Adas this coming year! We are One Community with Many Faces, which means that whoever you are and whatever your background, you can find meaning, tradition, and community in our congregation. Friday nights will become another vibrant expression of this vision. We no longer have just “early” and “late” services; now each of our various services has a name, a focus, and a ruach (spirit) all its own.
  • 6:00 pm: Kabbalat Shabbat Services
  • 6:00 pm: Once-a-month L'Dor VaDor Shabbat Services.
  • 8:00 pm: Adas Oneg Services
  • 7:00 pm: YP Shabbat and Services
  • The Ruach Minyan (6:30 or 7:00 pm depending on the time of year

Kabbalat Shabbat Services
The tone of this service will be traditional, passionate, joyful, and spiritual. We will join together in rousing traditional melodies, along with moments of depth and quiet contemplation. Our rabbis and other community members will share short divrei Torah (words of Torah), and we’ll get you out of the service feeling renewed and in time to enjoy a wonderful Shabbat evening and meal at home. (Note the time change from 5:45.)

L'Dor VaDor
(second Friday each month in place of other services). Children and young people will play prominent roles in this service, getting up in front of the congregation and helping lead prayers. Rabbis and clergy will conduct services, teach, and create an inclusive and
joyful atmosphere engaging children and offering adults an uplifting and traditional experience of t’filah (Jewish prayer).

Adas Oneg Services
We welcome extraordinary guest speakers, teachers, and performers who will educate and enlighten us and deepen our experience of Jewish culture, knowledge, and heritage. Begins with short evening service (includes English readings and musical instrumentation). Guest speakers or musical performers will then present to the congregation. After services, we will have a chance to speak to our guests informally at the oneg. The Adas Oneg Service is a celebration of the central role Adas Israel plays in the Jewish intellectual and cultural life of Washington. More...

YP Shabbat & Services
Begins with an informal happy-hour–style gathering at 7:00 pm, followed at 8:00 pm by a relaxed and ruach-filled service led by our own Elie Greenberg and other YP members. Our rabbis will also drop in to the service to share a brief d’var Torah with the group.

Ruach Minyan
Twice a month, this totally lay-led group gathers at Adas to usher in Shabbat with great joy and , on the first and third Fridays of each month. This service is followed by a spirited and joyful Shabbat dinner at the synagogue or a potluck at a nearby location. More...

The service is traditional in content and egalitarian in implementation with a full Torah reading. We welcome visitors, guests, and other "first timers".
