Bereavement & Funeral Practices

In case of death

When death occurs, please call the synagogue office, 202-362-4433, so that we may inform the clergy and be of assistance.

During business hours   Please ask for Glenn Easton, Executive Director or Henry Silberman, Synagogue Administrator.
After business hours   A staff member on call may be reached by calling the synagogue office number above and pressing "2" to be connected automatically, or by calling the answering service, 301-421-5271, which will page the staff member on call.
On Yom Tov and Shabbat   Even though detailed funeral arrangements should not be made, a staff member on call can still be reached at 301-421-5271.

We encourage our members to consider using the help of our Bereavement Committee for funeral arrangements.

Guide to Jewish Funeral Practices

Download Adas Israel's
"Guide to Jewish Funeral Practices"
(pdf)

Adas Israel has created a "Guide to Jewish Funeral Practices," which provides information about making funeral and burial arrangements, with contact information for area funeral homes and cemeteries. The guide also explains: what to do from the time of the death to the funeral, (including burial preparations), funeral service and burial, mourning, memorials, and guidance for planning ahead.
