Prisoners: A Story of Friendship and Terror by Jeffrey Goldberg, an Adas
Israel congregant, is this year’s Adas Israel Reads selection. On Sunday morning November 16 at 10:00 am. David Gregory of NBC News will interview Goldberg about his book.
Prisoners
was described as a "a sharply observed and beautifully written memoir” by the LA
Times and named one of the best books of the year by that newspaper as well as
the New York Times and Washington Post. In the numerous positive reviews of
Prisoners are these words:
"Realization of the humanity of the 'other' is at
the heart of … memoir …The journalist offers a bracingly clear-eyed, deeply
emotional and often humorous account of his life as an American Jew in love with
Israel” (Los Angeles Times),
“Goldberg takes an engagingly personal approach
to the issue in his story of the quest for mutual understanding with a
Palestinian activist who had been his prisoner. That turns out to be quite
revelatory, for what we learn not only of Palestinians like Mr. Hijazi but of
Jews like Mr. Goldberg” (New York Times).
Jeffrey Goldberg is a National Correspondent of
The Atlantic. Previously he was Middle East correspondent, and Washington
correspondent, for the New Yorker. He also served as a correspondent for the New
York Times Magazine, and New York Magazine. He has written for the Forward, and
was a columnist for The Jerusalem Post.
David Gregory is NBC News’ Chief White House Correspondent, leading the network’s coverage of the Bush presidency, reporting regularly on “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams,” “Today,” and for NBC News’ 24-hour cable network MSNBC and on MSNBC.com. In addition, Gregory is the host of MSNBC’s “Race for the White House,” a fast-paced daily look at the latest election news.
